Argentina: Other news
From Jamie Duncan

Crack sire, Southern Halo will shuttle to this country again after missing the last season. Given his continued dominance in the sire rankings, this is great news for breeders here.

Top stallion Equalize died recently. He was a 1982 grey stallion by Northern Jove and was a brother to Maudlin from the Dr Fager mare Zonta. His granddam was a sister to Reindeer.
He raced with great success in the US, winning the G1 United Nations Handicap and running second in the Arlington million. He amassed 13 wins and nearly US$1.5 million by his retirement. Among his best runners have been Chullo, 1997 Derby winner and Horse of the Year, Munecote, Esperada, Espaciado, Endurance, Desirable, Ulisse, Equity and Flirteando among 27 SW to date. 9 of these are at Group One level. He was voted top stallion in 1997 and has been consistently among the top 10 throughout his career. His loss leaves a big gap in the stallion ranks here in Argentina although he has sire sons at stud.

The latest purchases for racing abroad include the top two year-old, Petit Club who flies out to Ron McAnally in California after running in the Carrera de las Estrellas. Also USA-bound is the unbeaten filly, Ivory Tower. Both are by Southern Halo. Autumn three year-old staying star, Maipo Fitz and durable stayer Desirable go to the Middle East, where there seems to be a good market for long distance horses.
