Kenvain - Turn to Rain
|
Trained by the legendary
George Hanlon, Rain Gauge has been a real find during the 2001-2002 racing
season. He won the Moonee Valley Cup easily on Cox Plate day, and then ran
a terrific race when about 6th in the Melbourne Cup, although probably not
terribly suited by the wet and deteriorating track. His autumn form was
very impressive, when he proved up to WFA form, when he ran two close thirds in
Group 1 races. He was only about half a length behind Old Comrade and the
champion Northerly in the Australian Cup, and then in Sydney he was a similar
margin away in third in the BMW Stakes behind the great mare Ethereal and
Universal Prince. An administrative oversight saw him left out of the
Sydney Cup, and although Hanlon flirted with the idea of running him in the
Group 1 WFA Queen Elizabeth Stakes, he has been turned out for a spell with the
spring firmly in mind. He should start well up the Melbourne Cup charts. |
