Mistegic won his long overdue Group 1 race when he led almost all the way in the Galaxy on Derby Day. He had previously been placed in the big three sprint races of the Melbourne autumn carnival, the Lightning Stakes (to Spinning Hill), the Oakleigh Plate (to Sudurka) and was nosed out in the Newmarket Handicap (by Rubitano and North Boy). He'd also won the Schillaci and Moir Stakes in the spring, making him the most consistent sprinter of the last season. |
