An explosive sprinter, "The General", as he is affectionately known, hopes to embark on an ambitious international campaign in 1999. He won two Group 1 sprint races in 1998, the Lightning Stakes, in what was a phenomenal performance, and the Newmarket Handicap. In between these two wins was a shock failure in the middle leg of the Melbourne sprint Triple Crown, the Oakleigh Plate, where he ran at the tail of the field. The General also ran a close and courageous 3rd to Encounter in the Caulfield Guineas, 4th in the Golden Slipper, won the Magic Millions, and has the imposing record of being beaten only on about 4 occasions. He missed the start in the Doomben 10,000 and then got held up for a run, to go down narrowly for third. He then injured his tendon, although not seriously, and was withdrawn from the Stradebroke. He is expected to race this Spring and next Autumn before heading overseas.
