FILANTE

Star Way (GB) ~ Eau D'Etoile (NZ)
Foaled:  1992

Filante retired to stud after the autumn carnival of 1998.  He was a brilliant WFA performer, and a great rival to Octagonal and Saintly.  He was considered unlucky to have been born into the same year as his these two great racehorses.  He will stand at Widden Stud, in the Hunter Valley.  His major wins included the Epsom Handicap (in record time), Caulfield Stakes, Warwick Stakes (twice) and Chelmsford Stakes.  His Group 1 places were in the Canterbury Guineas, Rosehill Guineas (4th); AJC Derby, George Main Stakes (twice), Cox Plate (twice runner up), Chipping Norton Stakes.  He was owned and raced by the Whites, trained by Jack Denham, and ridden primarily by Mick Dittman and Jimmy Cassidy.
