A strong and chunky stallion, bred, owned and trained in Queensland, Falvelon first came south in the spring of 1999. He recorded two wins, at Caulfield during their spring carnival, then on Derby Day at Flemington. He returned in the autumn of 2000, and was set for the sprint triple crown. He was unlucky, however, in that he kept either running into a slightly better horse on the day, or tracks that didn't suit him. He ran second, first up, to the great Testa Rossa in the Lightning Stakes. He again ran second, to Flavour in the Oakleigh Plate, but the track did not suit the horse. He then came down the slower part of the track, to run a close third behind Miss Pennymoney and Black Bean in the Newmarket Handicap. Falvelon returned home to Queensland, set for their big sprints, but was second to Mr Innocent in the Doomben 10,000 then I think 5th in the Stradbroke. His trainer has brought the horse back for the 2000 Spring, and the horse has proved devastating at his only two starts. He blitzed a good field in the Schillaci Stakes on Caulfield Guineas day, then two weeks later, in the Moir (Schweppes - sorry, I hate the practice of renaming our great races!) Stakes on Cox Plate Day, he anihilated the field with a brilliant display of power and speed. He will tackle the Group 1 Salinger Stakes on Derby Day next, with all, including the racing public, who have taken to this gutsy little horse, hoping that he can break through for a well earned Group 1 victory. |
