Encounter
retired to stud after the autumn carnival of 1998. He was champion
2yo and is favoured to be champion 3yo up to a mile. He will stand
at Newhaven Park Stud, his breeder, in the Hunter Valley. His major
wins included the AJC Sires Produce and Champagne Stakes (as a 2yo); George
Main Stakes, Caulfield Guineas, Futurity Stakes and Chipping Norton Stakes
(as a 3yo). He will be remembered his narrow and unlucky loss in
the Golden Slipper, and met and defeated horses such as Juggler, Filante,
General Nediym, Al Mansour, Guineas, Gold Guru and On Air.
He was raced by the Kelly family, trained by Clarry Connors, and ridden
throughout his career by Shane Dye.
