It only seemed a matter of time before the very classy Easy Rocking finally won a Group 1 event. A half brother to the Australian bred Hong Kong hero Fairy King Prawn (defeated by the champion mare Sunline in the Hong Kong Mile), Easy Rocking had already won the Kindergarten Stakes, Roman Consult Stakes, Challenge Stakes, and the Canterbury Stakes, as well as running second to the great Testa Rossa twice as an early three year old. The horse returned to racing late in the spring, and was I think only second up when he scored a thrilling win in the 2000 Group 1 Salinger Stakes, with Jim Cassidy on board. He is trained by the former great jockey Ron Quinton, and may be Barathea's first Australian Group 1 winner. Easy Rocking has returned in the autumn of 2001 with a very fine third in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes over 1000m on 10 February, and he would be a popular winner of some of the big sprints, particularly from my point of view. |
