DANEWIN

Danehill (USA) - Cotehele House (NZ)
FOALED:  1991

Danewin retired to stud at the end of his 4yo campaign as the best performed entire son of Danehill. A five time Group 1 winner, this handsome bay horse won the Spring Champion Stakes, Rosehill Guineas and Doomben Cup as a 3yo, and the Caulfield Stakes and MacKinnon Stakes as a 4yo. He was controversially ridden and defeated in both the VRC Derby (losing to Blevic by half a length) and AJC Derby (second to Ivory's Irish by about a head), the jockey on both times Hong Kong based Jackie Tse. It must be added however that the same jockey rode the horse without incident to his brilliant Rosehill Guineas win, and his solid Spring Champion Stakes. He was knocked out of the Cox Plate in 1995 (won by Octagonal - whom he is closely related to - his dam is out of the great Eight Carat), by the tiring Our Maizcay who folded at the top of the straight. He was unplaced in both the Japan Cup and the Dubai World Cup. He now stands at Emirates Park Stud, and given his excellent pedigree, should prove to be a successful stallion. Always a nice horse to photograph.
