DANE RIPPER

Danehill (USA) - Red Express (NZ)
FOALED:  1993

A triple Group 1 winner, Daneripper was the principal stakeswinner for her champion sire Danehill in 1997/98. She won the 1997 Stradbroke Handicap, under Chris Munce as a 3yo filly, then, at odds of 40/1, she caused a boilover in the 1997 Cox Plate , ridden by Damien Oliver. She is trained by Bart Cummings, who has always had a high opinion of the mare, and has not been an easy horse to train. She has shown a liking for the Melbourne way of going, and in the Autumn of 1998, she proved her Cox Plate win to be no fluke, with a convincing win over Might and Power in the St George Stakes at Caulfield, and then a stunning 4 lengths win in the Group 1 Australian Cup. Might and Power was withdrawn on the eve of the race, with a minor leg injury. She failed to reproduce the form in Sydney, and is expected to campaign in Melbourne this Spring, being aimed at back-to-back Cox Plates.
