Alfa, trained by Bart Cummings, won the 1996 Group 1 Caulfield Guineas and the G2 AAMI Vase. He was runner up in the VRC Derby, after starting favourite. Touted as a rising star, Alfa returned in the autumn of 1997 with seconds to Cangronde and Mouawad, then bowed a tendon. Although he returned in the Spring of 1997, he failed to capture his spring 3yo form. Brought back again for the 1998 autumn, he unfortunately bowed the tendon again. He is most likely to be retired. Alfa is by the up and coming sire El Moxie, who stands at Emirates Park Stud.
